Injection moulding is a tooling process where parts are produced with the material like polystyrene, nylon, polypropylene and polythene by injecting these materials into the mould. The material is heated in a barrel and then pressured into the mould. It could take any shape and features as specified in the mould and designer or engineer.
Injection mould can be built in single cavity as well as more than one cavity, mostly all the cavities are similar. These types of moulds are used for producing large volume of components as this type of mould speeds up the production. It provides with the flexibility to the variety of component, any plastic product whether its micro part or big part can be manufactured from the injection mould.
Injection Mould Manufacturing is getting very demanding these days in plastic products as it is effective in producing and any component designed and desired by the manufacturer can be formed.
The Injection mould is basically made from steel or aluminum and consists of two primary components, the injection mould and the ejector mould. Four steps to be followed by the mould manufacturer:
1. Clamping- Where two halves of the Moulds are attached to the injection moulding machines and they are securely closed by clamping unit with force to check the duration required to be closed.
2.Injection- Where raw material in form of pallets are melted at high temperature and inserted into the mould to take the shape of the product.
3. Cooling- The plastic inside the mould starting to cool up and hence solidifies the structure of the material.
4. Ejection- In this process, product is detached from the rear half of the mould after sufficient time has passed.
The plastic injection molding industry has developed over the years from producing combs and buttons to producing a vast selection of products for many industries like automotive, medical, aerospace, consumer products, toys,plumbing, packaging, and construction.
